Know Your Plasma

The assignment is to construct a system capable of measuring emission spectra of a glow discharge plasma. The data from these measurements will be transformed using an inverse Abel transform algorithm to measure the radial intensity inside of this plasma and to further understand the processes which occur inside of plasmas.

Project description

Since we are the first group to work on this project, we had to start from scratch. Therefore, the big challenge is to develop and make an Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES)-system and to understand and perform the inverse Abel transform on the measured data using Python.

The expectations were to gain a basic understanding of the inverse Abel transform, which we can apply to our measured plasma data using the constructed OES-system.

The results up to this point are as follows: we have constructed a working OES-system and implemented a concept of the inverse Abel transform in Python.
