Covid19 and cross-border trade 2
My name is Hysen Rashkaj. I am 24 years old and I live in Viersen, on the border between Germany and the Netherlands. I study International Finance & Control at Fontys International Business School and I am doing my graduation internship at the Cross-border Business Development in Venlo.
I will be focusing on analyzing the economic situation of trade and business in the border region and how exactly this has been influenced by Covid19. Therefore, my main research question is: “How did Covid19 affect cross-border trade and business between the Netherlands and Germany?”. In the secondary research I will use existing data and facts, while for the primary research I plan to conduct a number of interviews with different municipalities and business clubs from both border regions.
The project relates explicitly to the region of Mönchengladbach, Krefeld, Viersen/ Noord & Midden-Limbuurg, i.e. the Euregio Rhein-Maas-Nord (without Kreis Heinsberg).
Due to the effects of Covid19, people as well as companies are in a completely different situation than before the pandemic. The country's restrictions make it especially difficult to operate in the border region and do not have a positive effect on the economy and trade of Germany and the Netherlands. This new environment must be assessed immediately, and I’ll identify possible consequences or even opportunities in order to develop a guide to action for the municipalities and the region.
