About Blue Mountains TAFE

Technical And Further Education (TAFE) institutions provide a wide range of predominantly vocational tertiary education courses, mostly qualifying courses under the National Training System. Fields covered include business, finance, hospitality, tourism, construction, engineering, visual arts, information technology and community work. TAFE institutions generally offer short courses, Certificates I, II, III, and IV, Diplomas, and Advanced Diplomas in a wide range of vocational topics.
Located in the heart of the unique World Heritage listed Blue Mountains, the Outdoor Recreation Section of TAFE New South Wales Blue Mountains College offers training in Outdoor Recreation. The course is aimed at students who pursue a career in the outdoor sector, ranging from Adventure Guide, Outdoor Educator, Discovery Ranger to management positions in the outdoor industry.

As part of this course students develop personal skills in abseiling, bushwalking, canoeing, skiing and canyoning and “life skills” especially in leadership, teamwork, problem solving, self-sufficiency, first aid and interpersonal skills. The majority of the course is delivered in the outdoors however there is a number of theory based classroom sessions and some online learning plus opportunities for industry based work experience.
