Your introduction week

The new academic year starts in September ... but before your studies start, you'll first take part in the introduction week. That's Purple 2024! During the introduction week (26 - 30 August) getting to know each other is key.


Get to know your study programme and make friends for life

You get to know your fellow students and meet new people from around the world. You will be introduced to your study programme, the university, and the city of Eindhoven.

What that will it look like, what you need, where you need to be, who you can contact, you can find all that information here. The International Business Introduction Week starts on Monday, 26th of August and runs until Friday, 30th of August 2024. We have an entire week of fun, getting to know each other, and exciting activities planned for you!

Programme

Below you can see all the activities in which you will participate:

On Monday Fontys welcomes you! You will meet all the new international students at IB, a word of welcome from our Director Mr. Ralph van Disseldorp, some practical information from our International office, a tour around our wonderful campus, and a quick introduction into life in the Netherlands as a student. You are expected at 13.00 hrs in the central hall of building R5, Rachelsmolen 1, Eindhoven. The end of the day will be around 19.00 hrs.

Just you and your ID!

We will meet you in the lobby of the R3 building and will guide you to rooms to receive your Purple bands. Afterwards some information about the week will be provided as well as introduce you to your classmates!

We will be spending the day getting to know the campus, the mentors and teachers, as well as each other during a fun game.
**Breakfast is not included, so please eat beforehand**

After the game on campus, there will be a rotation with different activities such as, a tour of our local football clubPSV, crazy 88 around Strijp S, and lunch. To close the fun day, we will have a sing along at the Karpendonkseplas. The sing along and the midday activities will be done with the International Communication Mangement program as well! (A great opportunity to meet other internationals at the institute.)

You can expect this day to last until about 23.00 hrs.

Need to bring with you:
Just you and your ID!

We will meet on the ground floor building R3 (You will know the spot after Tuesday's activities). We will be having a sports day! You will have the opportunity to meet more students from our building.

This day is spent together with not only the other international program, ICM, but also with the Dutch students from the Dutch variant of Communications!

Together, we will be playing fun games and activities at the Student Sport Centrum. In addition to your intro shirt, consider bringing something extra for the sportactivities! After a sporty morning the fun will continue with bowling where you could show off your bowling skills!

After that we will also be enjoying some food and drinks together at Stadhuisplein with a great lineup of DJ's at the Fontys Eindhoven Square party.

Followed by that, we will end the evening by heading to a Pubcrawl at Stratumseind which will last till 01.00 hrs.

Need to bring with you:
* Extra pair of clothes. You will still be wearing an intro shirt so we can identify you.
* Towel (for sitting on grass)

Please note: There are no changing rooms available at this location. Please come already dressed for the day.

This is the day of the long-awaited Purple Festival! Together with your fellow classmates we will be joining all the Fontys Programs in Tilburg for the great celebration. Featuring multiple DJs and various styles of music, there is something for everyone. Also, expect to play some games on location and eat great food from food trucks!

DO NOT BE LATE to arrive on campus. We are leaving together to walk to the bus location and then we will go to Tilburg, the festival is from 14:00 until 23:00 and we will return together with the busses.

Please be aware: Admittance to the festival is covered, however, food and drinks will be at your own expense!

On Friday, Fontys is hosting all International student barbecue on campus! This means that you will be able to meet ALL international students from various different institutes!

From 16.00 – 20.00 hrs there will be information, food, drinks, and (as the dutch say) ‘gezelligheid’ for all! (This loosely translates to a fun time!)

Fontys Welcome Party

On Friday August 30, Fontys and Purple organise the Welcome Party for international students. This event is all about getting to know fellow international students. From 16:00 to 20:00h Campus Rachelsmolen will be filled with conversations, info and 'gezelligheid' as the Dutch would say. We would like to invite you to the Fontys Welcome Party in Eindhoven!

Costs to participate

Participating in the Welcome Party is free for international students, buddies, teachers and coaches of Fontys.
NB: Make sure to register. No registration = no ticket and no entrance.

During this introduction week, many photos and videos will be made. They will include selfies and videos made by students on mobile phones as well as photos and videos made by professional photographers. By participating in this introduction week you automatically agree that these photos and/or videos are being published (i.a. social media, flyers, ads and websites).

Additional information

It is forbidden to consume strong drink and drugs. Alcohol is only served and drunk from 4 p.m. In addition to soft drinks, beer and wine are served at the overnight locations during the festivities (from 4 p.m.). If we do find liquor and/or drugs, they will be confiscated and we may send you home. Under the age of 18, alcohol is completely prohibited. Students aged 18 or older will receive an 18+ wristband at the start of the introduction week upon presentation of their ID card.
During the entire introduction week, First Aid / In-house Emergency and First Aid is present. Employees can be recognized by their yellow vests.
Participating in the Introduction week will cost a total of € 55,-. Of which € 25,- will be for the PURPLE activities, and the remainder of the costs for the study programme activities (including food). For information about payments, please contact introductionweek-ib@fontys.nl.
We would like to be informed in advance if there are medical matters that we need to be aware of. This includes illnesses, (food) allergies (epipen) etc. You can report this to introductionweek-ib@fontys.nl.
Photos will be taken during the entire introduction week. These may be made public or used for promotional purposes. By participating in the introduction you agree to this (give permission for this).


FAQ

The Fontys introduction week is called Purple and will take place from 26 to 30 August 2024. The programme starts with getting acquainted with fellow students and teachers at our location on the Campus Rachelsmolen. There you will form your own introductory group (including 'intro parents').

The Purple Introduction Week is all about getting to know each other. Getting to know classmates, getting to know the study programme, getting to know the city where the new students will be studying and, of course, getting to know the Fontys community!

Just like previous years, we are planning to make the Purple Introduction Week just as beautiful and fantastic as every year, of course within the measures that are in place at that time. All the 'new' measures will create a challenge, but Purple is motivated to make it a great week again!

Packing list

To make sure you are fully prepared for Purple, tick off the packing list below and nothing will stand in your way of having a great introduction week!

For the Purple programme, make sure you have at least the following ready when the intro starts:

  • A photo ID card or passport
  • Bankcard
  • Proof for enrollment for the introduction week
  • For the sports day, an extra t shirt & shorts and a towel
  • Your official documents for the diploma check after the Introduction Week at the International office

And of course don't forget your good sense and bulk energy!


Staff

Intro parents are students of the bachelor programme. They will guide you and are your point of contact. Our Intro parents are there for you 24/7 during the introduction week. You will meet the intro parents for your class on Tuesday 27th of August, 2024 on campus!’
