It is very important that our feet function optimally. A podiatrist specialises in treating foot problems and foot-related posture and movement issues.

Such issues generally involve pain and/or problems affecting:

  • Feet
  • Ankles
  • Knees
  • Hip and/or back

Podiatrists also provide preventive advice and treat abnormal toe positions and skin and nail disorders (both mild and severe) by means of provisional or definitive therapies. Because it is important to introduce students to the different treatment methods performed by a podiatrist, they have the opportunity to apply their knowledge and practice in the FCHM. The FCHM is the ideal place to bring together knowledge, theory and practice in this respect. Treatment is carried out by the students and will consist of podiatry foot treatment and treatment through supplementary (provisional) therapies such as orthotics, nail bracing, taping, felt padding, etc.

Walk-in podiatry consulting hours | Tuesdays and thursdays

Clients with mildly, moderately and highly complex foot-related symptoms can make an appointment for the multidisciplinary consulting hours. Under the supervision of a lecturer, the podiatry student will perform an examination based on the client’s request for help, to assess the functioning of the foot in combination with a motion analysis, and establish a targeted treatment plan.
