Cluttering is a fluency disorder where the speaker struggles to adapt their articulation rate to the motor and linguistic demands of the moment (Van Zaalen, 2008).
During this assessment of your speech fluency and intelligibility, we examine whether your speaking rate or aspects such as language automation impact disfluent speech and poor intelligibility. You'll also receive guidance on how to improve.
This assessment covers:
- Screening using the Cluttering Characteristics Checklist
- Speaking rate, rate variation, and pausing
- Fluency (SSL-4)
- Sentence structure (grammatical encoding)
- Word and syllable structure (phonological encoding)
- Speech motor control
With the results of this assessment, you’ll receive tailored treatment advice to enhance your fluency and intelligibility.

Make an AppointmentDuring a voice screening, we assess your vocal abilities and limitations. This initial measurement provides insights into various aspects of your voice, including:
- Dynamic range of your voice (vocal range/extent)
- Vocal fold closure (complete or incomplete closure)
- Vowel and consonant formation (articulation)
- Breath-voice coordination (breath support)
- Tension in the laryngeal musculature (is the larynx hypertonic or relaxed?)
- Vital capacity of your voice (how strong and fit is your voice?)
- Self-assessment of your voice via a questionnaire
- Maximum phonation time (how long can you sustain your voice and manage available air?)
- Breathing patterns (evaluating how your breathing supports or hinders your speech)
- Vocal properties and voice quality

A laryngeal massage, also known as manual facilitation of the larynx, aims to release tension in the laryngeal and throat area. The massage relaxes the muscles in the throat, neck, and shoulders, improving muscle function and making speaking and singing easier.
This treatment is ideal if you experience tension or a lump sensation (globus) in the throat area.
During the massage, you lie on a treatment table while the structures and muscles around the larynx are released. This involves massaging and stretching the muscles.
