Hack the intro: Make it greener and welcoming 4 all

March 19 2025 - 10.00-16.00 - CKE - Eindhoven

Introduction

How can Purple - the introduction week of Fontys - be more circular and
inclusive? With this question in the center, we want to invite you to help us
develop innovative solutions during the hackathon.

Students from other MBO-HBO-WO institutions in Eindhoven are invited and welcomed besides Fontys students as well. The more innovation and creative minds, the better! Plus, the results of this hackathon can be used for other (introduction) festivals as
well welcoming new students. Participants will work on challenges concerning
circularity and inclusion divided over more or less 18 interdisciplinary
groups.

There are cool prizes too! All participants will get a certificate for their CVs.
The 3 teams with the best ideas
will have a chance to win:

  • PSV football tickets in the ASML Lounge
  • Tickets for a concert at the Muziekgebouw Eindhoven

Q&A

Want to join but don't know how a hackathon works. Here is a Q&A to clarify how it works:

What is a hackathon?

In short, it’s a high-energy brainstorming session where you’ll work under a time crunch to come up with innovative ideas. Think of it as a creative pressure cooker for solutions! During the hackathon, you will work in a team with students from different disciplines and educational levels (MBO, HBO, WO) to come up with the best and most innovative solutions to make the introduction for new students greener and more welcoming in a short amount of time.

Does it involve coding or programming?

Not at all! Though you can offer your technical skills, the purpose is to transform ideas into reality and, of course, everyone has ideas. So, no matter what your study program is, you always have something to contribute and will learn from others. In fact, it’s what makes hackathons popular: the possibility to bring together all kinds of backgrounds and disciplines.

What can you expect at the hackathon?

During the hackathon, there will be presentations to introduce the challenge. You and your team will have your own table to work together on your chosen theme. Tools to brainstorm, work out ideas, etc. will be provided. There will be facilitators during the day that will guide you through the process and that you can ask for advice during the day. After the idea generation part you will present your ideas to some experts that will help you choose. At the end of the hackathon, you will present your solutions to a jury that will pick the winners based on clear criteria.

Why should you join?

You’ll get an amazing opportunity to learn and grow. Working on a challenge brings you hands-on experience, unleash your creativity and make a positive impact on student life for all, the planet and more. This is a chance to work with and learn from students from other disciplines and even expand your networks.

Of course, there are cool prizes too! All participants will receive a certificate that can be added to their CVs or LinkedIn profiles, and access to the aftermovie for personal branding.
The 3 teams with the best ideas will have a chance to win:

- PSV football tickets in the ASML Lounge
- Tickets for a concert at the Muziekgebouw in Eindhoven (you can bring one guest)

What do you need to prepare?

After you sign up via our registration form, you’ll receive more information at least 1 week before the hackathon on the topics that can help you to learn more.
