Embrace Technology, Entrepreneurship & Creativity

Done doing assignments just because you’re told to? This 20-week programme lets you work on challenges that actually matter—like solving real societal problems or creating something with impact. No fake tasks, no busywork. You’ll explore what drives you, find your passion, and build something you truly care about. No limits, just real work that means something.

What this exchange programme is all about

You’ll work on two things: team challenges that tackle real societal issues, and a personal project that’s all yours. The challenges are fast-paced, hands-on, and always focused on making impact.

Outside of that, you get time, tools, and full creative freedom to build something you're genuinely excited about. Along the way, you’ll explore new tech like 3D printing, coding, or laser cutting, and pick up design-based methods to shape your ideas. Expect a mix of doing, reflecting, and discovering what you’re capable of.

You don’t need a technical background to join—this programme thrives on diversity. Whether you study business, healthcare, design, psychology, education or something else entirely, your perspective matters. Some students explore social challenges. Others design creative solutions, launch initiatives, or build something with tech.

Expect a mix of doing, reflecting, and discovering what you’re capable of—on your own terms.

Why this programme?

  • Transform your ideas into reality with cutting-edge technology and creative entrepreneurship.
  • Get the time and help to work on a project you have always wanted to do, but never had time to do.
  • Join a vibrant, multicultural community committed to shaping the future of tech and business.

What you can expect from this programme

  • A diverse, international, group of students from all kinds of study backgrounds.
  • Real-world challenges that actually matter- no made-up case studies.
  • Space and freedom to explore what drives you, through your own personal project.
  • Personal coaching to help you grow-in your career, but also as a human.
  • A creative, inspiring community that feels more like a studio than a classroom.

What we expect from you

  • You're curious about what makes you tick-personally and profesionally.
  • You want to find your talents-and figure out how to actually use them.
  • You're open to learning without exams, 'right answers' or grades.
  • You take ownership: we give you freedom, but you bring the responsibility.

Content of the programme

Time to reset. These first five weeks are all about detoxing from traditional education—no lectures, no grades, no waiting for permission. Instead, you’ll dive into new tools and tech, get hands-on with creative challenges, and explore what you want from this minor. You’ll work solo and in teams, and start shaping your personal direction and purpose. It’s raw, experimental, and sometimes a little messy—and that’s exactly the point.

You’ll take creative risks. And most importantly—you’ll figure out what you want from this minor. Not what’s expected, not what’s safe—what’s meaningful. This phase sets the tone for the rest of the programme and helps you find your spark.

Once you've found your direction, it's time to get to work. Together with the full Embrace group, you’ll take on a larger challenge under the umbrella of Pulsed for Good—a real-world project focused on making a positive impact.

For example, one group worked on Pulsed for Dementia, designing tools and experiences to help people with dementia feel more connected, supported, and seen. From sensory kits to memory aids, students created prototypes that aimed to improve everyday quality of life—for both patients and caregivers.

Want more inspiration? Check out Pulsed for Good to see what students have already done—from sustainable solutions to social interventions, and everything in between.

At the same time, you’ll work on your Track Project—your personal mission. That could mean building a business, launching a product, exploring a passion, or diving into something deeply personal. You decide. You own the process. We coach you along the way.

We bring in young entrepreneurs, makers, and creatives who are out there doing the work. Some started their journey during Embrace TEC, others are building their own businesses right now. They’ll join as guest speakers or collaborators—sharing honest stories, personal fuck-ups, real advice, and the lessons they learned the hard way.

INSPIRING TEC EXPERTS

Who is more up-to-date than an expert who helps organisations all over the world in their field of expertise? Indeed, our TEC fellows! These experts are nationally or internationally acclaimed experts who will give you in-depth workshops in our programme.

At home feeling

We believe it is important to create a dynamic and open learning environment in which students from different cultures, nationalities and disciplines come together. A place where everyone feels at home. In order to achieve this, we (re)shape and (re)create this unique and modular/flexible environment together with our students.

Fail forward

Failing forward requires support, guidance, and most importantly, the time and space to reflect on you fantastic fails. This subtle shift from failure to failing can reduce the fear of failure that discourage students from exploring.

“We want you to revise and iterate based on what you learned from failing – all on a path to real success.”

Laure explains design-based working and teaches students how this method helps to fail forward. Laure explains design-based working and teaches students how this method helps to fail forward.

Spark your fascination

We believe that good ideas start with your own fascination. This creative spark can start from empathy, but sometimes It is also the problem or the process that is close to you that gets you started.

Throughout the programme, you’ll be matched with your own personal coach.
We believe that the better you understand yourself, the more you’ll grow—both personally and professionally. Your coach is there to support you, challenge you, and help you explore and shape your personal identity as you move through the programme.

It is not always easy for exchange students to find accommodation in the Netherlands. Therefore, Fontys offers a service to provide students with assistance in securing suitable accommodation (i.e. a student room) for their exchange at Fontys. For information go to the Fontys accommodation page.

Application procedure

    • After nomination by your university for an exchange programme at Fontys Pulsed you will be asked to apply through Mobility Online (our online application system).
    • Once you’ve been accepted in Mobility Online you can continue the application steps, including filling in the accommodation form before June 15 (for Fall semester) or December 8 (for Spring semester).
    • You can give your preference for a basic student room or a more luxurious student room with services included.
    • The accommodation officer will send you detailed information about the housing agency after the housing deadline.
    • The housing agency will get in touch with you and you'll have to transfer two months of rent + deposit before arrival to housing agency (no payment = no entrance accommodation, but still the obligation to close rental contract).
    • Accommodation is available on the agreed date.
    • You are obliged to accept and pay for the offered room for the whole period.

Please note that the expenses noted below are estimates only for a semester abroad at Fontys and that the actual expenses will depend on your personal lifestyle. If excursions are included in the curriculum, the costs are for the student him/herself. The study programme is obligated to offer a free option as well. You will receive more information about extra costs if applicable in the course descriptions you’ll receive once accepted to the programme.

Tuition fees

Students on exchange from Fontys Pulsed partner universities will not be obliged to pay tuition fees.
