Course description
Data is booming and being able to work with, analyze and interpret data is becoming an increasingly important skill. Apart from the skills to be able to work with data, it’s also important to understand data and information on a higher business level. How does it for example affect (strategic) decision making? How is information valuable on it's own or a major asset in multilevel value creation? How does it affect operations and deployment? This course will let you understand an organization and the way it creates value, through the concept of information: on one hand by letting you understand how information is crucial for an organization to flow and flourish, on the other hand how data and information is an asset on it’s own.

Learning objectives
- To gather information and process it into the right format;
- Present information to selected stakeholders in the right format;
- Transfer data into visualization methods that are accepted within a business environment, related to Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) and business scorecards;
- Use the Digital Maturity Model (DMD) and the concept of Infonomics, to visualize chances for an organization, related to the organization’s capabilities;
- Work with various IT applications, including low-code and Tableau for ongoing innovation.
General course information
Required previous knowledge
Knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Operations Management (processes and information) and data skills is useful to start at the right level for this course. Basic skills in Microsoft Excel is required.

Way of working
There will be interactive lectures in which you will get information on specific topics. The classes are interactive, so a high level of participation is required. This course involves practical, applied learning. With a starting level of reproduction and an end level of creation.
The student will be able to gather data to create relevant information in different forms (visuals, graphs or models) with the goal to present for different stakeholders. The course is dynamic and practical, emphasizing both technical skills and effective communication.
Exam
The exam for this course consists out of two major elements: a final portfolio that includes various weekly assignments on data and information management and a powerpoint presentation, designed in a corporate storytelling style and including an infographic.
Caesura
A final score of 5,5 or higher leads to passing the course and receiving the related 4 ECTS.
Retake exam
The retake of the exam is scheduled at the end of the semester. This is usually two or three weeks after the first exam week.
