Applied Science - Chemistry & Chemical Engineering

Your study programme

Get a good impression of what your study programme will look like.

What will you learn?

In Applied Science, you explore chemistry and technology through experimentation, collaboration, and learning both theoretically and practically. Through laboratory work, innovative projects, and group assignments, you will develop the skills needed to solve real-world problems.

Three students in white lab coats
  • You receive a good mix of practical experience, theory, group projects, and self-study

  • You delve into themes at the intersection of chemistry and technology

  • You develop a broad base with courses like mathematics and statistics to support you

What will the next 4 years look like?

The programme starts with a broad half-year in which you explore the fields of chemistry and technology. You then choose three modules that match your interests. In the third year, you willdo an internship and follow an in-depth research module linked to our research group. The final year consists of a free elective and a graduation internship.

Year 1
Eindhoven

Propaedeutic year

In the first semester, you’ll build a broad base with subjects like biology, chemistry, technology, mathematics and statistics. You’ll learn safe lab practices and how to handle chemicals and micro-organisms. In the second semester, you get to choose one of the following modules:

  • Circular Water
  • From Molecule to Medicine (Pharma)
  • Clean Energy and Green Chemistry
  • Innovative Materials

Through projects, you get insights into the business world

Year 2
Eindhoven

In depth of the second year

In the year two, you gain more freedom to choose your own direction by selecting another two modules from the four options. During these modules, you’ll dive deeper into the subjects and build on what you learned in the first semester. You’ll also collaborate with first-year students and engage in exciting projects such as hydrogen production, plastic recycling or the creation and analysis of medicines.

Year 3
Eindhoven

Internship

Internship

During the first semester of your third year, you will do an internship at a company or organisation of your choice. We have global connections to help you find the right fit in terms of location, company and project.

Specialisation

In the second semester, you will choose an expert module linked to our research group, allowing you to engage in more applied research in collaboration with lecturers and fellow students.

Year 4
Eindhoven

Graduation

Free Programme

During this semester, you can follow the minor Applied Biomedical Sciences and Engineering or select another minor at Fontys or another (international) educational institution. You can also enroll in a pre-master programme or work on a multidisciplinary project together with students from other disciplines.

Graduation

Choose a graduation project that suits you at a company, research institute, or hospital of your choice.
