Your study programme

Get a good impression of what your study programme will look like.

What will you learn?

Are you curious, full of ideas, and love making cool things? Do you have a passion for design, technology, and working with others? The BSc Industrial Design Engineering programme in the Netherlands combines design and engineering, has a focus on collaborative skills, and offers top-notch workshop facilities.

  • Combine real projects with self-study in a dynamic design studio.

  • Learn about materials, engineering, and manufacturing processes to shape your designs with a strong technical foundation.

  • Build professional skills by working with real clients on live projects.

What will the next 4 years look like?

At Fontys BSc Industrial Design Engineering, you’ll work on real projects and study independently in a design studio, not a classroom. Each week is unique, with client meetings, presentations, and workshops on design theory and skills. You’ll spend four full days a week focused on studio work.

First two years

In your first two years, you’ll take on a variety of live design projects, building skills through hands-on experience. Your progress will be assessed based on key competencies, such as professional practice and concept development. Each year, you can earn 60 credits by demonstrating your growth through a portfolio, working towards a total of 240 credits for the programme.

Minor & Internships

In the third year, you’ll build on what you’ve learned in the first two years with opportunities for international study and internships. One semester will be spent studying a minor at a university abroad, and the other will focus on gaining practical experience in a company. This year will help you grow your global view and prepare you for your career.

Graduation

The final year focuses on specialised, hands-on learning. You’ll spend one semester on campus and the other working on a graduation project with a company. At least one key part—whether it's an internship, minor, or graduation project—must be done abroad, giving you valuable international experience.
