Get a good impression of what your study programme will look like.
Industrial Engineering and Management is a study that focuses on optimising processes to improve efficiency, productivity and the performance of technical companies. This study is a combination of engineering principles with management techniques.
At Fontys' Bachelor in Industrial Engineering and Management you will gain extensive knowledge of business processes, participate in real business projects and improve your technical and communication skills. Our programme ensures that you are ready for the future and prepares you for the role as an Industrial Engineer supported by personal coaching.
Your study program has two phases: propaedeutic and main. The first builds essential skills and introduces companies. The main phase, lasting 3 years, focuses on skill development, practical experience, a minor, and graduation.
A typical week includes 20 hours of classes, 8 hours of practice, 6 hours of group work, and 6 hours of self-study.
In your propaedeutic year, divided into 4 periods, you'll learn the basics of Industrial Engineering and Management. You'll start by researching a business process with peers and later apply this knowledge to improve a company of your choice. Throughout, you'll build key skills like research, problem-solving, and communication, and be introduced to the OPEX (Operational Excellence) profile.
After the propaedeutic phase, you'll build on the basics by completing two modules focused on improving and redesigning business processes. You'll gain hands-on experience by working at a company several days a week to boost your CV. With your coach, you'll tailor your study path, including the sector, skills, and profile that fit you. You’ll follow a minor, either locally or abroad, and complete a graduation project.
Our programme provides multiple options to tailor your study path. Throughout your studies, you select a profile, an interesting sector, areas to deepen your knowledge, and your graduation focus. You won’t make these decisions alone; your study coach will guide you. This support helps you explore your interests and uncover your talents during your studies.
When graduating, you have several options. You can join a company team to improve a production process, or work as an independent researcher, analyzing a process and presenting improvement advice. Throughout your studies, you build a portfolio, finishing in a graduation result that shows your skills as a professional Industrial Engineer.
