Get a good impression of what your study programme will look like.
One day you are working on the embedded software of a self-driving car. The next day you are working together with fellow students on a cloud solution for a large international company. After you have mastered the technical basics, you will choose a specialisation.
We educate you to become a computer scientist, software developer and security officer. Information Technology starts as a general programmme where you get subjects such as programming and databases. After three semesters you choose a specialisation: Software Engineering, Business Informatics, Data Science, Cyber Security or Embedded Systems.
You will get subjects such as programming and databases. You will soon know everything about Google's algorithms and Instagram's security systems.
As an information technology specialist, you work on projects together with a team. In year 1, you will work on enhancing social skills through hands-on projects like developing a web application and a business application. Will you develop a CRM tool or webshop with your fellow students?
In the second year, you'll deepen your theoretical knowledge and skills with advanced courses in your chosen field. Subjects include business management, concurrent programming, data warehouses, algorithms & data structures, management information systems, and programming in C/C++. The first three semesters are a shared programme, after which you choose your area of specialisation.
In the first semester of year 3, you'll gain hands-on experience through a work placement in a company and industry of your choice, anywhere in the world. In the second semester, you'll expand your knowledge with a minor programme. Choose to study this minor at Fontys, one of our partner universities in the Netherlands, or one of 125 partner universities abroad.
In your final year of Information Technology at Fontys Venlo, you'll tackle the main project: 'the Software Factory', developing market-ready software with partner companies. You can enhance your professional skills by choosing elective specialisations.
In the last semester, you'll complete another practical work placement. When you have finished all parts of the programme, you'll have earned an internationally recognised Bachelor of Science degree.
