Euphonium

Professor

Robbert Vos

About the course

Are you interested in studying Euphonium? AMPA offers a specific course for this beautiful instrument! After all, there’s a reason why it is deemed the cello of brass instruments. Although the instrument is relatively new and often even unknown, there is a world of opportunities. Are you dreaming of a career as a soloist? An orchestral musician? An ensemble specialist? A teacher? Anything is possible!

You will be trained to become a professional on your instrument with the highest possible musical and technical capabilities. The euphonium is an extremely versatile instrument, so there will be much attention towards the diverse stylistic possibilities. This includes studying the most famous and canonical repertoire for the instrument, but also more uncommon music to make you a well-rounded musician, who can adapt style, sound, articulation and musical approach to what is necessary or required in daily practice.

Playing together with other musicians is an integral part of your studies. You will be part of the brass department, but we would also challenge you to think outside the box. Which surprising ensemble combinations can you think of? Perhaps a combination with woodwinds? Percussion? String players? Or would you like to perform alongside other artistic mediums like dance, theatre, or fine arts? It’s all possible and we can offer you the chance to create and develop your own ideas. This will help you to become an independent musician.

In the Bachelor Course you will have weekly lessons with your euphonium teacher (Robbert Vos), a weekly ensemble coaching lesson, and a rehearsal with a pianist to work on repertoire. Of course, this is combined with interesting courses on music theory, cultural history, entrepreneurship and much more.

In the Master’s Course, AMPA gives you the opportunity to shape your own educational plan. Do you want to focus on any specific subjects? Or would you like to specialise in teaching, solo playing or ensemble performance? It’s up to you!

We hope to welcome you to our brand new euphonium class!
