No, knowledge of the Dutch language is not required! Fontys offers many English-taught bachelor’s and master’s programmes. There are also many companies looking for English-speaking interns and colleagues. If you're interested, we do offer courses for internationals with a wish to learn Dutch.
Finding a place to live can be challenging, so we recommend starting early! Fontys helps students by reserving a limited number of accommodations for first-year international students, but demand is high. Find out more about accommodation in the Netherlands by visiting our dedicated page.
Internships are an important part of studying at Fontys. As a student at a University of Applied Sciences, you’ll get hands-on experience by working at a real company. Internships can last several months and are often paid (but this varies from company to company). During your internship, you will gain valuable work experience and build a professional network. An internship can even lead to a job after graduation!
To study at Fontys in the Netherlands, you need to meet several requirements. First, you must have a secondary school diploma that aligns with the admission criteria of your chosen programme. A good command of English is also essential to follow your studies successfully. Additionally, you need a valid passport or ID card. If you are an EEA or EU citizen, you won’t need a visa. Financial preparation is important as well, as you must be able to cover tuition fees and living expenses. Health insurance is legally required in the Netherlands, and every student at Fontys is expected to have arranged proper coverage before starting their studies. Lastly, finding accommodation is a crucial step, as housing can be competitive, so it’s best to start your search early. In contrast to Polish higher education, Fontys does not require the świadectwo dojrzałości (maturity certificate). To start at Fontys University of Applied Science a świadectwo ukończenia liceum ogólnokształcącego diploma is sufficient.
