Minor Electric Drive

Do you want to discover the future of mobility through exciting guest lectures, inspiring working methods and hands-on learning? Then choose the minor Electric Drive.

Discover the future of mobility!

You will learn to understand electric drive systems in vehicles by actively participating in projects run by student teams or companies. After completing the minor in Electric Drive, you will have the comprehensive knowledge and skills required to develop an electric drive vehicle.

Why choose the minor Electric Drive?

  • Learn all about electric driving
  • Work together in multidisciplinary teams
  • Discover the latest technological developments
  • Meet the industry at the Automotive Campus in Helmond
  • Get the freedom to work on your personal learning goals

What will you learn?

In the Minor Electric Drive (MED) you will learn all the ins and outs of electric vehicles and you will be introduced to the practical application of all components within an electric vehicle. In the first month we focus more on theory with a small amount of practice, in the following period it is mainly ‘learning on the job’. Guest lectures and workshops are organised by companies and other student teams who are involved in electric driving. This will give you an even better understanding of the latest developments surrounding sustainable mobility.

Project at student team or company

All your theoretical and practical knowledge will be further developed during the minor within various projects. One of the most important projects is Team NovaFAST's solar car. This team has the ambition to participate in the European Solar Challenge or World Solar Challenge. In addition, there is the opportunity to make an active contribution from this minor within other student teams or industry projects involving Electric Drive.

Learning together by working together

Knowledge sharing and learn from each other is very important within this minor. We will encourage collaborations between the different projects in order to show different applications and technologies.

The future of mobility

Work together with other students on the mobility of the future!

How is the minor structured?

February

In February we focus on developing basic knowledge through lectures and workshops.

March - June

From March to the end of June you will apply your knowledge in projects for companies or a student teams, such as NovaFAST.

Contact hours

During the minor, you will have about 15-20 contact hours per week.

Discover all about electric drive with our comprehensive range of modules, each designed to teach you in-depth knowledge and practical skills.

Modules
  • SAF Safety E- vehicles NEN 9140 (participation mandatory for project minor)
  • Electric Drive Power Units
  • Electronics & Communication
  • Battery 7 management
  • Photovoltaic & Smart Grid
  • Design & Simulation
  • Aerodynamics simulation
  • Project Management
  • Basic Programming
  • Vehicle Dynamics
  • Automotive Knowledge

Evaluation

Practical exercises from the above modules should be included in a report, if applicable. Reports will be assessed. Successful completion of the practical part is a requirement for completing the minor and earning the 30 ECTS.

In the Electric Drive minor, we establish learning objectives to prepare you optimally for the challenges of electric driving and explore the latest technological developments. In doing so, you can expect the following:

  • You will learn how people deal with challenges regarding electric driving in practice
  • You are introduced to new technological developments
  • Working in multidisciplinary teams
  • Plenty of room for personal learning goals
