Today’s economy is rapidly changing because of the strong growing E-commerce businesses. During the minor students will learn about E-commerce & E-fulfilment and acquire entrepreneurial competences to make an E-business successful. These competences are inevitable in case of future independency (entrepreneurship) and highly appreciated  in corporate management positions (intrapreneurship / business development manager). Both are focused on exploring new opportunities, business building, in order to create economic value and therefore are of key economical and social importance in modern society.

The introduction phase provides the students the theoretical basis needed to be able to gain more in-depth knowledge about e-fulfilment and to apply the obtained knowledge and competences in the advanced phase by carrying out projects for real e-companies. The projects will be guided by their internal (teacher) and external (company) coach. So this minor has the unique combination and mix of learning and doing.

At the end of the minor students will have broader knowledge about the in the schedule above mentioned topics, understand the relation between the topics, can apply the gained knowledge in real projects within e-companies and by that even can integrate these fields of knowledge, investigate, analyse, improve and or develop (new) business opportunities within an (international) operating e-company. The acquired competences are of great importance for achieving success in the emerging world of e-business. According to Thuiswinkel.org, an organization that represents the e-business industry in the Netherlands, there is a high demand for competent managers with these qualities.

Participate in research projects

The students are also offered the possibility of participating in research projects on various e-commerce topics. These research projects are often joint ventures between educational institutes, government and businesses. They provide a first-hand opportunity to employ acquired skills and to start building a broader personal network. Numerous innovative tools and techniques are introduced and used to generate interesting results. A good example is the introduction of Simio simulation software, which started as a tool in a small sub-project, but has the potential to grow and even make its way into the day-to-day curriculum.

Fontys University of Applied Sciences uses Simio simulation software under a grant from Simio LLC (www.simio.com).

Have you already thought about your choice of minor? Do you want to immerse yourself in your profession, or do something completely different? Your choice of your minor can be quite difficult. The most important thing is that you choose something that really suits you. This way you can distinguish yourself from others and make your studies even more personal. But how do you choose? And what can you choose?

(Online) minor information week
To help you with your choice, we organise an (online) minor orientation week in November '24. During these information sessions, you will learn more about the content of the minors and you can ask any question you may have. You can register here for the orientation week.

For further information please contact the minor-coordinator Mr. Ken Zschocke, k.zschocke@fontys.nl or 0031 (0) 8850 76790.
