How much tuition fees do I have to pay?
The tuition fees indicator helps you to determine the tuition rate for your situation. The information and tuition rates from this indicator are without engagement.

A distinction is made between statutory tuition fees and institutional tuition fees. Only if you satisfy all statutory requirements regarding your nationality and if you have not yet been awarded a degree, will you be eligible for statutory tuition fees. Via the tuition fees indicator, you can secure an indication of the type of tuition fees that will be applicable in your situation. To do so, please make use of the indicator above.
Distinctions are made between low insutional tuition fees and high institutional tuition fees.
Different types of tuition fees and Exemption Regulations
These different types of tuition fees and the Exemption Regulations are fully detailed in the:
Tuition Fees Regulations 2025-2026 Tuition Fees Regulations 2024-2025The amount to be paid may vary in accordance with the following situations:
- If you have enrolled in more than one course programme (at Fontys and/or elsewhere), it is possible that you may only be obliged to pay one set of statutory tuition fees.
- If you believe that you may be eligible to pay only the statutory tuition fees on the basis of information that may be unknown to us, please report this to your Course Department.
- If it later transpires that you do not meet the requirements for statutory tuition fees, you will be obliged to pay the (higher) institutional tuition fees and if this is the case, you will be notified accordingly.
How and when to pay your tuition fees
- You pay your tuition fees via a digital (direct debit) authorisation, either all at once or in instalments (via Fontys).
- On or around 15 May , you can fill in your payment details via Studielink. You only need to fill in this information once for the duration of your studies.
- After confirmation, the first direct debit will take place on or around 25 September.
More information about entering your payment details in Studielink can be found at info.studielink.nl/en. A lot of information can also be found in the Studielink Q&A - payment method section.
Student finance
You can check if you are eligible for student finance. Keep your study information up-to-date through 'Mijn Duo'.
What is student finance?
Student finance is financial support from the government for students in higher education. It consists of diferent components, such as:
- Basic grant
- Supplementary grant
- Student travel product
- Interest bearing loan
- Tuition fees loan
You decide which components you apply for. It is advisable to always apply for the supplementary grant. You only have to do this once, and every year, DUO will calculate if you are entitled to it. For more information on student finance, click on the button below.
In Studielink, under the Payment tab, you will find the option to change your payment details.
For more information on changing your payment details through Studielink, see the corresponding step-by-step plan at info.studielink.nl/en or the Studielink Q&A.
Does your employer pays your tuition fees?
- Confirm the digital authorisation yourself in Studielink, using your own bank account number.
- Request an invoice at Fontys for your employer per academic year using the form below.
- Please do this well before the first collection date (Collection will take place on or around the 25th of the month).
- Request the invoice for your employer each academic year
Has the direct debit already taken place?
Unfortunately, Fontys can no longer invoice. In order to then claim reimbursement of these costs from your employer, you may request a proof of payment document from your course department. You may then submit this document with your claim for reimbursement to your employer.
If you are not yet 18 at the time you want to enter your payment details in Studielink, it is not possible to arrange a digital (direct debit) authorisation. This is because a digital (direct debit) authorisation is a contract with the bank and by law a person under the age of 18 may not enter into a contract with the bank. If this is the case, you have a number of other options for supplying your payment information.
1. Someone else pays your tuition fees
You indicate in Studielink that someone else is paying your tuition fees. See also the information under the heading Third party to pay Tuition Fees.
2a. Start September: You turn 18 between 15 May and 1 September
Will you be turning 18 between 15 May and 1 September? If so, wait to enter your payment information until after your 18th birthday. You can then arrange a digital (direct debit) authorisation without any problems and still be enrolled in time for the start of the academic year.
2b. Start February: You turn 18 before 1 February?
Will you be turning 18 before 1 February? If so, wait to enter your payment information until after your 18th birthday. You can then arrange a digital (direct debit) authorisation without any problems and still be enrolled in time for the start of the academic year.
3. Payment by payment agreement
If no one else can pay your tuition fees, you can pay yourself through a payment agreement by indicating in Studielink that your bank is not in a SEPA country. You must then transfer the full tuition fee amount to Fontys before the start of the study programme.
Missed your tuition payment? No worries! Fontys might send you a Tikkie. With the payment link, you can quickly and easily settle your payment without getting into the formal procedure. If you don’t pay the Tikkie, you’ll just get a reminder.
How can I be sure the Tikkie is from Fontys?
- Fontys sends Tikkies via SMS, never through WhatsApp.
- The name “Fontys” will be in the URL (if it’s not a business Tikkie, there won’t be a name in the URL).
- Fontys’ logo will be in the background image.
- When you click the link and go to your banking environment, you’ll see Fontys’ IBAN: NL17ABNA0552369276.
- A Tikkie can only be sent to a Dutch mobile number.
