For students with other secondary education/ high school diplomas

As soon as your application is visible in Studielink we will contact you by e-mail and ask you to send us your documents for the diploma assessment. If you are curious whether your secondary school diploma is equivalent to Dutch standards and offers access to higher education in the Netherlands, please check the website of the Dutch foreign credentials evaluation centre, Nuffic.

As a prospective Bachelor's student you must have a diploma of higher secondary education that is equivalent to Dutch standards. In order to be admitted to Fontys University of Applied Sciences students must be eligible for higher education through a diploma of secondary education / high school diploma with good results. For international students this means that you can be admitted with one of the following diploma’s/certificates if you meet all the requirements:

  • Senior high school diploma, which generally grants access to a Bachelor programme in the country of issue
  • General Certificate of Secondary Education in 4 subjects with marks ranging from A-C, plus a General Certificate of Education with 2 subjects at advanced subsidiary level
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma
  • Baccalauréat Général
  • American High School Diploma (AP courses are strongly recommended)

If your diploma is not on this list, we still advise you to send us your documents (after you have submitted an application in Studielink) so that we can evaluate if you are admissible for the study programme.

As a non-EU/EEA student, the Netherlands will require an Entry Visa* (MVV) and a Residence Permit. Fontys will apply on behalf of its students for these documents. We recommend you start the process early, i.e. approximately three months before you plan to enter the Netherlands.

*except nationals from Australia, Canada, Japan, Monaco, New Zealand, South Korea, the USA and Vatican City State.

Haven't had mathematics and physics for a long time? Then this course is the perfect fit for you! For 4 months, you will be offered classes 1 evening a week at Fontys in Eindhoven. Check our Basic Mathematics and Physics course website for the application options and further explanation.

Short refresher course Mathematics

Would you like to refresh your mathematics knowledge before starting your studies? This is possible with this short mathematics refresher course. Visit our Math Refresher Course website for enrolment options and further information.

Please note these courses are only available in Dutch language.

As an applicant with a Dutch mbo-4, havo- or vwo-diploma you will be exempted from taking the language profiency test.

Fontys University of Applied Sciences will act according to the Code of Conduct.

Tuition fees and other finances

Taking care of your finances is an important part of student life. There are tuition fees, possible scholarships and (proof of) living expenses to consider.

More about finances

Good to know: the Dutch Immigration Service (IND) requires non-EEA students to prove they have access to a certain amount of money per year/semester. Read more by clicking the link above.

What other costs should you keep in mind?

Besides tuition fees, there are more costs such as textbooks, introduction, excursions and a good laptop. Are you going to live in a room? Then you will pay rent and other living costs such as gas, water and internet.

Check on DUO whether you are eligible for study financing or a student public transport pass.

Foreign students in the Netherlands typically spend €900-€1,100 monthly, covering rent, insurance, food, transport, clothing, and more.

Study Choice Check

It is important to us that you feel at home with us. A study choice check can help you do just that. With a questionnaire and a personal interview, together we will see if this programme suits you. Do you apply after the deadline? Then our recommendation is binding.
