Get a good impression of what your study programme will look like.
The MIRT bachelor at Fontys University of Applied Sciences is a comprehensive 4-year programme. You'll gain expertise in using advanced medical equipment for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes, preparing you for a dynamic role in healthcare technology.
Throughout the MIRT programme, you'll master operating MRI, CT, and SPECT technologies. Learn about radiation safety, patient care, and biological impacts, becoming skilled in technical and patient interaction. Expect 20 hours of classes weekly, plus project work and hands-on lab sessions, with additional independent study time.
The first year serves as an orientation on the complete (4-year) programme and focuses on the responsibilities and tasks you’ll be performing as a Medical Imaging & Radiotherapy professional. Additionally, this year will give you the opportunity to find out whether this course is the right fit for you. You’ll also be working together with students in other paramedical training programmes.
During the second year at Fontys MIRT, you will explore advanced diagnostic tools like CT, MRI, and SPECT. You'll learn to create complex radiation treatment plans. Mid-year, choose a profile theme to personalise your studies. By year's end, select a specific examination and treatment focus. Participate in short orientation internships throughout the first two years.
In year 3, you'll dive into the profile theme chosen in year 2. Spend half the year on a 20-week internship in Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy. The other half is dedicated to a minor, which can align with your profile theme. Choose a minor at Fontys or another university, in the Netherlands or abroad, to broaden your expertise and network.
In year 4, you'll combine your graduation internship with a research project, completing a 20-week internship in Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy. Conduct a personalised research project aligned with your chosen profile theme from year 2. This final year focuses on hands-on experience and in-depth research, preparing you for a successful career in the field.
