Loïs Verkooijen studied Journalism in Tilburg between 2016 and 2020, meanwhile earning her propaedeutic from the Academy of Arts in Breda. She then did a master's degree in cultural anthropology at Radboud University
She wrote with, about and researched marginalized groups and likes to explore the lines. For example, she graduated with an ethnographic study of highly activist Catalans in Barcelona. Now she works as a freelancer in journalism, enthusiastically trying to combine these three disciplines. At the professorship at Fontys, among other things, she researches ‘subsistence insecurity’ and how perception by the media affects people in poverty. She also studies how anthropological or ethnographic methods can help journalists get closer to certain groups and write about them more inclusively and with fewer stereotypes.
