Bo Jacobs
My name is Bo Jacobs, I am 20 years old and I come from the Netherlands. When I was 11 years old I started dancing at the pre-education in Maastricht (NL). After doing this for 5 years I started studying at Fontys School of Fine and Performing Arts Tilburg (NL) in the direction contemporary urban. I chose the direction of contemporary urban to develop myself as a more diverse/all-round dancer. This made me able to create an own language of moving and performing.
When I started performing for an audience for the first time I realised I want to show something to my audience: a part of myself, a complete new character, a new experience, a specific subject, something that brings them into a different reality and goes through their thoughts. For me that is one of the most beautiful things to do, to share myself and my explorations/knowledge with my audience, in the right amount of abstraction and expression, so there is still an open space for interpretation for the audience. Working towards that sharing moment gives me a lot of motivation and excitement. For this being able to happen my intrinsic motivation is to keep on developing art. This gives me insights on how I can and want to have a contribution towards the art field and the society.
Next to this one of the most important things for me is to keep playing and having fun, because that is what made me start dancing in the first place. This will always keep me going and by doing this I hope to fully grasp my opportunities as a freelance dancer.
Next year I want to focus on exploring different sides of the dance field, and trying to learn as much as possible. This is why I will go to Israel to start the Dance Journey Study Abroad Program at Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company from September 2020 till February 2021.
