Dr. W.J. (Wouter) Boendermaker

Dr. Wouter Boendermaker is a versatile researcher with a background as a social scientist at the intersection between healthcare and technology. He studied developmental psychology at the University of Amsterdam, where he received his PhD in 2017 on the use of serious games for adolescents with addiction problems.

He was a post-doctoral researcher and later assistant professor at Utrecht University from 2015, and has been working at Fontys since 2021. His research expertise includes cognitive assessment and training, motivation and gamification as validated treatment techniques in children and adolescents, as well as extensive technical skills in game design and technology, data analysis and programming. Within the research group, Wouter's areas of interest include the ethical aspects of doing applied research, the MasterMinds program, the adaptive learning and gaming pillar, and acquiring research grants. Wouter is also a lecturer at Game Design & Technology, partner coordinator for the social partners of SPARC and program coordinator Social & Technical Impact for Fontys People and Society.
