Elite sports at Fontys

Fontys is proud of its elite athletes and talents in the field of sports. In our strategic plan 'Fontys For Society 2021-2025', we say that we facilitate students in developing their talents. Fontys has developed an elite sport policy to create an optimum climate for both elite sporting and academic achievements.

What ARE the principles of the Fontys Elite Sport Policy and the Fontys Elite Athletes Scheme?

The Fontys Elite Sport Policy and the Fontys Elite Athletes Scheme facilitate elite athletes and talent in the organisation (though not the content) of their study programme. All students must meet the same exit qualifications in order to obtain the study programme diploma. Where possible, Fontys will make special arrangements for elite athletes and talents to allow them to meet the exit qualifications The Fontys Elite Athletes Scheme applies to all Fontys students. Eligibility for the special arrangements under the Fontys Elite Athletes Scheme may vary per study programme.

Before applying for the programme of your choice we advise you to fill in the checklist for upcoming elite sport students.

What are NOT the principles of the Fontys Elite Sport Policy and the Fontys Elite Athletes Scheme?

  • The Fontys Elite Sport Policy and the Fontys Elite Athletes Scheme facilitate elite athletes and talent in the organisation (though not the content) of their study programme.
  • Being an elite sport athlete will not give an exemption of the content of (parts of) the study programme. Neither is being an elite sport athlete valid reason for missing lessons, exams or internships.

If you already applied for a programme at Fontys, please send a application for your talent status.

Special arrangements as regards the organisation of the study programme of an elite athlete or talent are the joint responsibility of the student and the study programme. This will require a proactive attitude on the part of the student. Skills that are characteristic of a proactive attitude include planning (not losing track, identifying bottlenecks), communication (asking for cooperation) and orientation (knowing what to ask for and what not to ask for).

Fontys is proud of its elite athletes and talents in the field of sports. Those elite athletes are managing a dual career: a career as athlete and a career as student. Meet our dual career athletes.
