Dealing with a physical disability
What is it?
There are different types of physical disabilities that can have a (big) impact on your studies. For example, if you are dependent on a wheelchair, it is important that not only the building but also all classrooms are accessible to you. It is also important that you can use a disabled parking space and a lift in the building.
To avoid or reduce any study delays due to your physical disability, it is important that you discuss your needs within the study programme.
What can you do yourself?
If you contact your study programme or a student counsellor before the start of your studies, you can find out in advance what is needed to meet your support needs. You can then ask all your questions: is the lecture hall accessible with a wheelchair? In short, together you can map out what you need for your studies and, if necessary, the programme can arrange, request or adjust certain things in good time. Make sure you write down all your points for discussion beforehand to make sure you discuss everything.
You might not be able to attend all classes due to your physical disability. You could make a request with the help of a student dean to see if attendance requirements can be handled flexibly. You could also discuss with lecturers the extent to which you can take the class online or, for example, get the presentation in advance.
