Appeal, objection or complaint

Do you disagree with a decision made by Fontys? Then you can lodge an appeal, objection or complaint with the Student Desk. Which procedure applies to you depends on the problem.

Examples of decisions

  • A negative study advice;
  • A decision of the Examination Board or examiners (e.g. assessment);
  • Number of credits obtained;
  • (Exemption from) admission requirements;
  • Admission to examinations.

A student may submit an appeal to the Examination Appeals Board against binding negative study advice or decisions made by examiners or the Examination Board. These decisions may concern the number of credits earned, exemption requests, admission to examinations and interim examinations, etc. In principle, a student may initiate the appeal procedure directly. It would be preferable, however, for a student to first request the Examination Board of their study programme to review the decision, unless it would be in the student’s interest to lodge an appeal directly to the Appeals Board, or in the event the student has received binding negative study advice. The notice of appeal must be submitted in writing within six calendar weeks after the date of the decision. A copy of the decision with which you disagree must be sent together with the notice of appeal. The Student Desk will record receipt of your appeal, send you a confirmation of receipt and will pass on your notice of appeal to the Examination Appeals Board for further consideration. You have to submit your appeal in digital format via the portal of the Student Desk.

For more information about the appeals procedure, please consult the Students’ Charter (Studentenstatuut).

Students wishing to object to a decision taken by or on behalf of the administration of the institution are free to lodge an objection with the Executive Board. This includes decisions taken by the director of a school of Fontys. These decisions may relate to admission to a study programme, enrolment, rules of conduct and disciplinary measures. You may submit your objection by post or email.

A student who disagrees with the actual conduct of a Fontys staff member or with organisational matters may submit a complaint to the Executive Board in accordance with the Fontys complaints procedure. A student wishing to complain about the application of privacy regulations may submit a complaint to the Data Protection Officer. Where possible, it would be preferable for the student to first follow the complaints procedure established by the student’s own school within Fontys. You may submit your complaint by post or email.
