Every famous brand relies on logistics, and every product we use has undergone logistical processes. In other words, all products around you have gone through different steps before they ended up with the person that finally bought them. Logistics is all around us. So many exciting things are connected to logistics –the field for the future!

About

As a Logistics Management student, you learn to evaluate logistical processes, monitor performance, negotiate with external and internal partners, and optimise processes. Next to learning about logistical and supply chain processes, you have a clear view of operations within companies, which makes it easier for you to make connections and communicate with other departments. Additional focus will be put on topics as customs, trade law and e-commerce. The programme is a well-balanced mix of lectures and practice-based project work. Field visits will provide insights of the real-life work environment.

How does your week look?

Every week has two project days which are structurally planned for you. You’ll ill either spend the days on campus or within the company you’re doing the project for. Beside the project days, lectures are planned on 2-3 days of the week. The schedule is provided for a full semester. Per week you’ll have approximately 25 hours where you are in lectures or together with your project group. In addition, another 15 hours per week will consist of self-study. This includes homework assignments, preparations for the lectures and studying for exams.

Each semester has 3-4 individual exams.  For the semester project, reports and presentations have to be delivered together with your group. Retakes of the exams and for the projects are offered in the same period.

Course description

Students of Logistics Management and Logistics Engineering follow a joint programme during the first three semesters. During this time, students are taught the basics of logistics, economics, statistic models and project management. Every semester is dedicated to a topic: (1) Warehousing and Materials Handling, (2) Distribution, (3) Production and (4) Integrated Logistics. Every semester will focus on a project dedicated to the semester topic. Additionally, you’ll get a feeling of what the main tasks of a logistician are through company visits. We will provide you with general business knowledge and relevant soft skills such as professionalism, teamwork, self-reflection, and communication.

In the second academic year, you’ll expand on your knowledge. After the third semester, you’ll choose to specialise in either Logistics Management or Logistics Engineering. Your focus will be on lean management, meaning that you learn how to reduce operations that don’t add value to your processes. This results in higher productivity and lower process costs. You’ll also look at aspects of international trade. Your business knowledge enables you to set up performance measurement systems, and to monitor and optimise all steps in the logistics process.

In the first semester of year 3, you’ll do an internship at a company of your choice. In the second semester of year 3, you deepen or broaden your knowledge in a specific theme in a minor programme. The minor programme provides you with the opportunity to acquire knowledge in a different field than your major or chose topics as Customs Management or E-Commerce to acquire more knowledge in Logistics. You can choose to do this minor at Fontys, at one of our partner universities in the Netherlands, or at one of our 125 partner universities abroad.

The first semester of your final year is your last semester on campus. During this semester, the main focus of your classes and projects is on the field of Supply Chain Management. You learn how to work with suppliers in an effective way, to detect optimization in procurement and how to calculate the total supply chain costs. Your focus will be on the commercial and legal aspects of supply chain management as well as on intercultural aspects and supply chain collaboration.

In the final semester, you’ll do another work placement and work on a practical problem. You report the solutions to this practical problem in your final product: the graduation report. Once having concluded this final part of the study programme, you are rewarded with the internationally recognised degree Bachelor of Science.

The tuition fees indicator helps you to determine the tuition rate for your situation. The information and tuition rates from this indicator are without engagement.

go to tuition fees indicator 2024-2025

Statutory tuition fees and institutional tuition fees

A distinction is made between statutory tuition fees and institutional tuition fees. Only if you satisfy all statutory requirements regarding your nationality and if you have not yet been awarded a degree, will you be eligible for statutory tuition fees. Via the tuition fees indicator, you can secure an indication of the type of tuition fees that will be applicable in your situation. To do so, please make use of the indicator above.

Distinctions are made between the following types of Institutional Tuition Fees:

          • Low institutional tuition fees
          • High institutional tuition fees

Different types of tuition fees and Exemption Regulations

These different types of tuition fees and the Exemption Regulations are fully detailed in the:

              Tuition Fees Regulations 2025-2026

              Tuition Fees Regulations 2024-2025

The amount to be paid may vary in accordance with the following situations:

              • If you have enrolled in more than one course programme (at Fontys and/or elsewhere), it is possible that you may only be obliged to pay one set of statutory tuition fees.
              • If you believe that you may be eligible to pay only the statutory tuition fees on the basis of information that may be unknown to us, please report this to your Course Department.
              • If it later transpires that you do not meet the requirements for statutory tuition fees, you will be obliged to pay the (higher) institutional tuition fees and if this is the case, you will be notified accordingly.

Some Fontys study programmes offer the NL scholarship to their students. Check out the link to see if this study programme participates and for more information.

              Information about NL scholarship

You might also be eligible for other scholarships not provided by Fontys. These can be found on the Study in NL website.

              Paying in instalments

Collection will occur in a maximum of ten equal instalments on or around the 26th of the month. Depending upon the processing time required after your enrolment, the direct debit may need to be moved to the following month. If so, the amount outstanding will then be divided and added to the remaining instalments to be executed until and including the June instalment.

If paying the full sum in a single payment

If you commence your studies on 1 September, the direct debit pertaining to your Tuition Fees will be executed on or around 25 September. If you commence your studies after 1 September, the direct debit will be executed on or around the 26th of the month in which you commence your studies.

              Non-EU students

Incoming non-EU students will receive a payment letter from their study department, which must be paid before the deadline. In the following academic years, payment can be made by direct debit.

              Non-SEPA

If you have a Bank account number of which the bank is not situated in one of the SEPA countries, and you are a national of a country outside the EEA without an address in The Netherlands, then you will receive a payment letter from Fontys via your course department.

The Dutch currency unit is the Euro (i.e. abbreviated to ‘EUR’ or ‘€’).

The average living expenses per month for a foreign student living and studying in Holland are between EUR 1,100 and EUR 1,500 per month. These living expenses cover rent, insurance, food, public transportation, books, clothing and other general costs.

Dutch Immigration Service (IND) requires non-EEA students to proof they have access to € 14.641 per year (€ 7.320 per semester)

Costs within the first months upon arrival will be higher than all other months due to a housing deposit, intro week and books. Study books are usually bought at the start of the semester and therefore it is wise to reserve and have direct access to an amount at the start of the semester which can cover the price of all study books and the living expenses for the first two months.

Before starting your study at Fontys, you must find suitable housing. Unfortunately, it is not easy for international students to find accommodation in the Netherlands due to the housing crisis. Start your accommodation search early. Please be aware that finding a place to live is your own responsibility. However, we are happy to assist in any way we can.

              Career opportunities

Our graduates work in many different fields all over the world. Your specialisation in Logistics Management or Engineering does not tie you to a specific job profile. Some examples of positions you may take on:

              • Supply Chain Management: Some of our graduates work in supply chain management. They’re involved in supplier management, negotiating prices and realising service levels. Working in SCM means finding the best solution for your customers and managing the global flow of goods including storing and distribution.
              • Consulting: As a consultant, you’re involved in projects where you consult various clients. This can be in the implementation of new IT systems, monitoring inventory or managing warehouse performance. You may also advise on designing new layouts for warehouses or help clients to improve their purchasing processes in order to minimise costs – all while maintaining the availability of products for production and sales.
              • Manager Operations: Warehouse Manager, Inbound Operator, Distribution Planner, and Head of Production. Our graduates work in a company and are responsible for optimal performances within their area. Their tasks include managing personnel, making sure that targets are achieved, and striving for continuous improvement.
