Expertises

My name is Ralph Goes, I graduated from University of Applied Sciences Utrecht (formerly HTS) in 1984, majoring in Electronics.

I started my career as IC-designer at Philips in Nijmegen in August that year. My job consisted of designing integrated circuits (ICs) in the radio and audio field. At that time, I supervised many students who were doing an internship or graduation assignment within our department. Collaborating with students was fun and added value to my work. In addition to taking many courses myself, I also provided courses for layouters and lectures for colleagues.

In 1999, I switched to Optical Storage at Philips in Eindhoven. Here I joined a small development group where Front-end ICs were designed for CD and DVD players. In 2004, I found a job at the IC-Lab in the Semiconductors business group, another department within Philips. This department was hired by other departments to design specific circuits for their applications. Due to reorganization, the IC Lab department was closed down and I found work in the Identification department where ICs are made for public transport and passports, among other things.

By attending the graduation sessions at Fontys, my interest in education grew. Collaborating with students seemed like the new challenge to take on. In September 2018, I started as a teacher within Fontys Engineering Electrical Engineering. I developed myself in power conversion and used that knowledge to strengthen the research group. However, I do not want to limit myself to power conversion. Within the three themes of DSS (health, sustainability, and intelligent sound and vision) I would like to make my contribution.
