ESNS - Future of Dance
Boete of verlossing? Wat wordt het: 'Futures Confessions of Music'?
Onderdeel van:
Penance or Redemption?: Futures Confessions of the Music Industry
Hit by the Coronavirus, lockdowns, Economic inflation, Geopolitical instability with the War between Russia and Ukraine (NATO?), and crossing several planetary boundaries such as Climate change and Biodiversity loss. We live in a post-modern time as dr. Wendy Schultz stated at the Berlin WFSF Futures conference 2021: “This is an in-between period where old orthodoxies are dying, new ones have yet to be born, and very few things seem to make sense”. We are thus living in a ‘transitional age, a time without the confidence that we can return to any past we have known and with no confidence in any path to a desirable, attainable or sustainable future. (Serra del Pino, Jones, May the postnormal perfect storm – part 1. The nature of the crisis)
Facts are uncertain, Values are in dispute, Stakes are high, and Decisions are urgent; we live in a post-modern time. (Funtowics and Ravets, “Science for post-normal age” Futures 25 (1993). Pp. 739-755)
As far as we know, music has played an important role in our society. Perhaps we can say that music is directly linked to our emotions and helps us cope with ourselves in times of trouble (need research). Also, the music reflects and shapes our culture (needs research). Perhaps we could say that music can help us to cope with the uncertainty of these post-modern times and help us to navigate to the next safe era or even help us to shape a sustainable future and make decisions as Good ancestors.
A futures-research team of Fontys Academy for Creative Economy will discover the hopes and dreams we get from music, but also the team will seek confrontation with the people within this industry in ‘Futures Confessions of Music’. What will it be?; penance or redemption?
Design objective
Develop a research tool to get insights in the futures assumptions of people within the Music Industry and their expected agency towards shaping the future of their own industry but also the future.
