Standardised Manual Knee Tester

Assignment: A sensor equipped device to be used in an everyday clinical setting during the execution of manual knee tests. Goal: Provision of relevant decision-making information to the orthopaedic and physiotherapeutic clinician. Added value: Standardized quantified real time data that was not available in this form until now.

Project description

Starting point: Mainly qualitative information about manual test execution and subjective test evaluation. Quantitative and objective test systems are large disruptive contraptions with limited clinical information.

Challenge: A minimal manual test disruptive system with accuracies of displacement and force measurement of 1 mm and 1 N respectively.

Expectations: Compact accelerometers with relatively simple force sensitive resistors deliver the force-displacement data which can be presented and processed in a software environment such as Labview.

Results: A minimalist measuring frame connected to the lower leg and upper leg that enables an undisrupted test execution and in which there is room for the sensors.
